The Port Authority of Seville sets aside a part of the sediments dredged from the channel during the maintenance campaigns in Puntalete and Salinas, the areas closest to the estuary mouth, to the maintenance and regeneration of the beaches at Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
Before it is transferred to the coast, the dredged materials are examined to assess the suitability of the sand with a granulometric analysis to determine whether it is appropriate for the beaches around Cadiz. Once analysed, the dredger takes the sediments to the coast and deposits them on the beaches through a pipeline, to replenish them.
